I wanted to share this template we are using for our 5-year Release Planning effort. We are working to get this set up for our top 50 Business Applications. The inputs to this are:

* Planned Initiatives and Functional Requests
* Vendor Roadmaps
* Technical Upgrade Plans
* Functional Upgrade Plans
* Strategic Upgrade Plans
* The CMDB
* Technology Roadmaps with Current State Information

These are being created so we can drive our Business Function Technology Roadmaps which basically show the functionality used by each business area and the technology that supports each one. These show a 5-year technology plan to support each business area and breaks the costs down by steady-state and project costs.

Another use of the Release Plans are to help drive our Sunset plans so we can help our Operations team understand what technologies they will need to support.
